The Best Catfish Restaurants in Accra: A Review of The Catfish Grill

It’s not every day you must eat grilled catfish with banku. Did you know there are several meals that can be enjoyed with fillets from catfish?

And did you know there’s only one place where you can find such delicious meals? The best Catfish restaurant in Accra? Well, let me tell you all about my experience at The Catfish Grill, located in Cencor Venue, North Dzorwulu.

This is actually a hidden and quiet spot where you can simply enjoy your meals or opt for delivery.

Although most people are used to eating Foiled Baked Whole Catfish, The Catfish Grill begs to differ. They currently offer over 7 meals, providing plenty of options for you to try and choose from.

During my visit, I had the chance to try a few dishes, and here's what you should know about them.

Fish Fried Noodles: This dish features spicy stir-fried noodles mixed with chunks of fried fillet from the catfish. As a noodle lover, I thoroughly enjoyed the various flavours in the dish complemented by the distinct taste of catfish fillet. The noodles had a good texture, not soggy, just right! But the portion size is suitable for one person. Priced at Ghc 95, I would rate the taste an 8 out of 10.

Fish Fried Rice: A personal favourite, this dish has the perfect balance of spice and expert stir-frying. Its delightful taste and texture make it a standout choice. Priced at Ghc 95, it earns a perfect score of 10 out of 10 in my book, I would highly recommend it for everyone.

Fish Fillet Wrap: This offering features deep-fried fish fillet paired with crisp vegetables and lettuce, all wrapped in a tortilla. I found this dish enjoyable and would rate it an 8 out of 10. It’s currently priced at Ghc 70.

Fish Fillet Burger: A spicy deep-fried fillet served in a brioche bun with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and homemade burger sauce. While the taste was satisfactory, I found the bun size too small, warranting a rating of 7 out of 10. Priced at Ghc 70, it offers a decent option for burger lovers.

Foiled Baked Whole Catfish: This signature dish features hot and spicy catfish, with prices varying based on the size of the fish. While the spice level was intense, having sampled the fillet dishes beforehand, I didn't enjoy it as much, resulting in a rating of 7 out of 10. Ideal for pairing with banku, prices range from Ghc 145 to Ghc 240.

Fish Fillet with French Fries: Another standout dish, this features moist fried fillet that simply melts in the mouth. Although I wished for crunchier and saltier chips, the overall experience warrants a perfect score of 10 out of 10. Priced at Ghc 135, it's a must-try option.

Additionally, note that the fried fish fillet pairs well with yam chips too.

Fish 'Popcorn': These are bite-sized deep-fried catfish morsels, perfect as a starter. While they offer a good aftertaste, the initial taste may not be immediately discernible. Additionally, the portion size is small. Priced at Ghc 65, it's a decent option for those looking for a light appetizer.

Keep in mind, these prices are as of April 2024 and are subject to change.
