#GhanaTravels: Exploring Paradise on a Budget -The Hideout Lodge Ghana, Butre Beach

The Hideout Lodge Ghana is a budget-friendly beachfront accommodation located in Butre, a small fishing community in the Western Region of Ghana.

GETTING THERE

Getting to the Hideout Lodge is an adventure in itself. You can either take an 8-hour drive from Accra to Takoradi and then an hour drive from Takoradi to Butre with a private car or commercial transport, or you can take a 30-minute flight from Accra to Takoradi and then an hour drive to Butre. The journey may be long, but it's worth it when you arrive at the lodge.

THINGS TO DO & SEE

The Hideout Lodge offers a variety of activities and sights for travelers to enjoy. From hiking to Fort Batenstein (also known as Fort Butre), hiking to the Coconut Beach and Natural Pool, you'll never run out of things to do.

Canoe rides and hiking to Busua Beach are also available for those seeking a more relaxed experience. Watching the sunrise and sunset while having breakfast with a beach view is another unique experience.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD BUDGET

Accommodation options at the Hideout Lodge range from single, double, family, dorm, treehouse, and camping spaces with prices from Ghc 100 to Ghc 500 per night.

Food options are also available with prices ranging from Ghc 35 to Ghc 100. It's important to note that prices may vary, so it's always best to confirm with the destination before embarking on your trip.

PROS AND CONS

While the location may have some cons, such as the dusty and untarred road leading to it and little to no network connectivity, the pros of the Hideout Lodge outweigh them. The location is budget-friendly, with affordable food and accommodation options, and offers a beach house by the sea. It's the perfect hideout for travellers seeking a peaceful getaway from the city.

MY TAKE

I had the pleasure of visiting the Hideout Lodge in December 2022 for a two-night stay. The journey was long, but the breathtaking views made it worthwhile. I spent my first day taking in the sights and enjoying the sunset while eating a delicious meal of rice with chicken. The night was peaceful, with the sound of waves crashing in the background.

The next morning, I woke up early to catch the sunrise, which was a beautiful sight to behold. After a hearty breakfast, I embarked on a hike to Fort Batenstien, where I enjoyed the aerial view of Butre village. From there, I hiked to the Coconut Beach, which was the highlight of my trip. I sipped coconut water while enjoying the beautiful scenery, and I wished I could swim.

After returning to the lodge, I had lunch and took a walk along the Butre beach, where I saw other resorts, including abandoned ones. At night, I enjoyed a bonfire while listening to drumming by the seaside.

Overall, I had an amazing time at the Hideout Lodge, and it was the perfect escape from the city.

TOTAL BUDGET

My budget breakdown for the trip was Ghc 490, including transportation, food, and activities.

Transport roundtrip – Ghc 274

Food and Beverages – Ghc 121

Activities and Fees – Ghc 95
