This year, I'm planning to do fewer solo trips and instead embrace more group adventures with my girls or simply play the role of the host.
To kickstart the year, I was invited to the perfect Airbnb for groups and families. This place truly feels like a home away from home. I had an incredibly fun and memorable experience during a weekend getaway with my friends.
ABOUT SUMMIT ESCAPE GARDENS
Summit Escape Gardens is a 3-bedroom Airbnb situated on a hill in Gbawe, within the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It offers picturesque and breathtaking views of Accra, especially at night.
It is about an hour's drive from Accra Mall and the airport, depending on the traffic situation on the N1 highway.
Each of the 3 bedrooms is ensuite, equipped with a closet, dresser, bedside lamp, bedside drawer, plant, television, DSTV, mirror, air conditioning, and ceiling fan. The bathrooms are well-equipped with essentials including towels, toilet rolls, shampoo, conditioner, cleaning brush with bleach, sink, and hand washing soap. Additionally, there's a heater for warm water.
Summit Escape Gardens features a living room, kitchen, dining area, balcony, workspace, and a guest washroom, all fully equipped to ensure your stay is comfortable and convenient.
Outside, the premises has a large outdoor pool, jacuzzi, hammocks, swings, basketball hoops, and a barbecue area. The bar will be completed soon, adding to the already inviting atmosphere. Moreover, there are numerous fruit trees, including mango, pawpaw, and avocados.
One notable feature of Summit Escape Gardens is its thorough water filtration system, ensuring that all water within the house is safe to drink, including that from the taps in the bathroom.
Powered by solar energy, the house offers a constant supply of electricity.
Summit Escape Gardens serves as a perfect getaway spot for friends and families, truly embodying the essence of a home away from home.
As of January 2024, the rate per night was $300, granting access to all rooms and the premises.
Breakfast is inclusive and you can request for a chef to cater for your other meals at an average cost of $100 per day.
Summit Escape Gardens also provides laundry services as well chauffeur services available for city trips, long distance exploration and pick-ups or drop-offs
Check-in is at 4 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM.
Please note the presence of a dog kennel, which is off-limits to guests. The dogs are only released at night, per arrangement with the hosts.
Note: Many places in Ghana offer holiday packages during festive seasons, such as Christmas, Easter, New Year, and other special holidays. Keep an eye out for these discounts.
MY EXPERIENCE
Since it was my first time in the area, I was provided with a Google Maps location, which I shared with my friends.
Accompanied by a friend who was driving, the location provided was helpful. However, it redirected us to a less-than-ideal route. At one point, we even thought we were lost, but we eventually arrived safely. The tour with Yaw, the co-owner, certainly helped us forget about the challenging road. It's worth noting that Summit Escape Gardens is situated on a hill, with part of the road being untarred.
Some of my friends encountered difficulties with the map, but we managed to resolve the issue. Additionally, the road posed a challenge for those arriving in smaller salon cars.
After settling in, I began creating content while awaiting the arrival of three other friends. We were pleasantly surprised with welcome snacks, and we didn't need to worry about buying or bringing water, thanks to the filtered water available, which was also chilled. Moreover, the tap water was safe for drinking.
For lunch (available at an additional cost and prepared by a caterer), we enjoyed a delicious spread, including jollof, grilled chicken, yam chips, kelewele, samosas, pineapple juice, and various beverages.
The food was exceptional, with the spicy jollof and refreshing juice being personal highlights.
Following lunch, we spent the afternoon relaxing around the premises before gathering in the living room for a game night. Summit Escape Gardens provided an array of board games, including Scrabble, Articulate, and Ludo, although we also brought along our own, such as UNO.
During this time, we granted permission for the hosts to release the dogs, as we didn't plan on stepping outside again. There are also CCTV cameras were present for security purposes.
Later in the evening, we enjoyed what remained of our lunch before retiring to our respective bedrooms.
The following morning, we explored the premises, lounged in the hammocks, and indulged in some swinging fun. I also took the opportunity to admire the various fruit trees, including pawpaw, oranges, and mangoes.
At around 9 AM, we were treated to a buffet-style breakfast, featuring scrambled and boiled eggs, cereals, beverages, and fruits. This was included in the rate, and although it was prepared for us, we pitched in with the dishes afterward.
Checkout was at 11 AM, prompting us to make the most of our remaining time by enjoying the jacuzzi, swimming, and simply having fun by the pool.
Overall, the experience was seamless, offering us good food, great company, and welcoming hosts. That filtered water was particularly addictive! The presence of a walkie-talkie for communication was also a thoughtful touch.
The rooms and bathrooms had a cozy, modern aesthetic with a hint of vintage charm. The entire house exuded a homely atmosphere, with everything functioning perfectly. The only hiccup was our struggle to figure out how the bathroom heater worked, despite seeking assistance. Nevertheless, aside from this minor issue, everyone was friendly, welcoming, and eager to ensure our stay was comfortable.
